For many high school students, Prom Night will be the biggest event of their lives until their wedding day. The big night is fast approaching, and many students are busy finalizing the details to make this evening a special one. If you have not yet booked your prom limo, now is the time to do so!
To avoid getting swindled or left without a ride on one of the most important evenings of your life, take a look at these important tips for booking your prom limo…
BEFORE BOOKING:
- Get all of the important facts about the company and limo itself. The first thing you should do when booking your prom limo is to determine whether the limousine company has an operating license and insurance (ask for proof!). In addition, a reputable limousine company should be a member of trustworthy associations such as the NLA. You should also learn the year, make and model of the limo.
- Visit the vehicle. If you are able to, visit the limo company and check the vehicle in person. The last thing you want is for a dirty, damaged, smelly car to pull up as your ride on prom night.
- Acquire a contract or price quote in writing. In addition to a written contract or price quote (exact) – which should include any gratuity or surcharges, deposits and/or cancellation fees – and the limo company’s liability if the vehicle breaks down or the driver is a no-show. Keep in mind that sometimes limo companies quote artificially low prices, and then tack on surcharges, fees, and taxes.
ON PROM NIGHT:
- Plan ahead for payment. Talk with your friends before prom night, to get payment or plan whom is paying what. It is suggested that you collect all payments ahead of time, in case anything happens. Remember, someone could get sick, a couple could break up, your friend’s date could flake out – things happen and no one wants to get stuck with more than is expected or fair.
- Schedule enough time for your pre-prom dinner. A formal dinner before the actual prom event will probably take a minimum of two or three hours. Blackstone offers a dinner package with family-style Italian restaurant Buca Di Beppos, in which the food is pre-ordered and ready when arriving at the restaurant. This helps to keep the time-in-restaurant to a more reasonable 60 – 90 minutes. Make sure to plan enough time for everyone to enjoy their meal without rushing, and plenty of time to get from dinner to prom in applicable traffic conditions.
- Don’t bring along any drugs or alcohol. It is illegal for minors to consume alcohol and drugs, and that extends to your prom night limo ride. Reputable limousine companies won’t tolerate the use or possession of drugs our alcohol.
A couple of other brief tips… Reputable limousine companies will require a deposit, but should not require full payment until the night of the event. Beware of companies requiring 100% of cost up front. They may take your money and not actually show up on Prom Night. Also, if your chauffeur arrives on prom night and demands more money than appears on your contract, show him the contract (therefore, have it with you on prom night, just in case). Ladies should bring along a jacket or coat for the evening – it can get chilly!
